What Fits In My Storage/Dumpster Container?

When you work with The Mobile Attic for your storage and dumpster needs, you will realize we have various size options to choose from. This is to ensure the utmost convenience for our customers but figuring out which units best suits your needs isn’t always an easy task. Many people find themselves overestimating how much room they need, which causes them to pay for space they don’t even use. While some people experience the opposite problem and find themselves struggling to fit everything in.

Because of this, we’ve come up with some guidelines for you. Ensure your new move, project, event, or renovation goes as smoothly and seamlessly as possible with our tips before committing to your next rental.

Storage Unit Guidelines

colorful containers The three sizes of storage containers we carry are 8’x12’, 8’x16’, and 8’x20’. If you are moving out of a small space, then the smallest option is adequate. They usually hold around 2 bedrooms and 1 living room worth of things – the typical size of your average apartment.

If your space is around the size of 3 bedrooms, then you’ll want to move to the next size up. An 8’x16’ unit is ideal for those with bigger furniture items, big electronics, pianos, and such. Finally, our biggest unit is reserved for the big awkward items that won’t easily squeeze into a smaller sized container. If you have more than a few big objects to move, this would be your best option.

Keep in mind that our 8’x20’ containers cannot be moved when packed to their fullest. They can easily hold around 5 rooms full of items, including big appliances, couches, and beds, but they are only meant for storage in these instances.

Dumpster Rental Guidelines

Dumpster rentals come in two different sizes: 10-yard and 20-yard. The 10-yard option is more appropriate for smaller remodeling jobs and minor cleaning jobs (such as clearing out a shed, garage, attic, yard, or something similar), dirt removal, and other do-it-yourself tasks. Keep in mind that the unit will need to be placed on your property. If you don’t have a lot of room outside your home, then a 10-yard dumpster might be more ideal.

Still not sure what you need? Think of it in terms of pick-up truck loads. A 10-yard dumpster will hold around 3 truckloads worth of debris, while a 20-yard unit will hold twice as much. If you are cleaning out multiple rooms of your home, or if your construction project is bigger than your average bathroom or bedroom renovation, then a 20-yard dumpster is a more appropriate choice for you.
